Major Life Updates

Wow.  It’s been the better part of a year since I’ve written a blog post.  And so much has happened.  There have been so many times in the last several months that I’ve wanted to post a recipe or a cookbook review or a new food find, but it just seemed like so much in my life had changed, that I couldn’t just write a blog post as if nothing had happened.  Now I’m finally feeling like the time is write to share some of past year with all of you, and to get back into sharing recipes and food tidbits – something I genuinely love and have truly missed.

The Sad

My Dad passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly in April.  This turned my world upside down for a while. Things are still pretty upside down in some ways, but at least I’m learning to accept it and continue living my life.  This is the main reason I stopped blogging for the last 8 months.  I just couldn’t not say anything about it, and yet I wasn’t ready to write about it.  I miss my Dad every day, and sometimes cooking and creating new recipes is painful because it’s something I would have shared with him.  Even now I still sometimes think, I should send this recipe to Dad; he’d really love it.  And then I remember that I can’t do that anymore.  And it’s devastating. But I know Dad wouldn’t want me to stop cooking and sharing my love of food and nutrition with the world, so I’m ready to get back into it.

The Awesome

I got married!  Just a few weeks ago Taylor and I tied the knot!  For the first few months after my dad passed, I kept thinking, how can I get married without my dad???  It seemed like the wedding didn’t matter anymore and for a while I had trouble getting excited about it.  However, the closer we got to the wedding the more exciting things became, and while yes, I missed my dad terribly and it wasn’t the wedding I had imagined, it was still wonderful and amazing, and one of the best days of my life. My awesome wedding photographer Melania shared some sneak peak photos with us, and I can’t wait to see the rest of the pictures – especially of the dancing at the reception!

Here are a few of my favorites from the ones she shared right away:

I love this because it reminds me of the film Pride and Prejudice!

I seriously can’t wait to see the rest of the photos, and if anyone in the central PA area is looking for a wedding photographer, I highly recommend Melania. She and her second shooter Savannah were fantastic before and during our wedding, and I’m so happy with the photos we got so far 🙂

It was an amazing day, surrounded by our friends and family. Thank you to everyone who came out and celebrated with us and to all of you who helped us with the planning and prepping – it was truly a magical day.

Everything went by so fast – I feel like I can’t even remember all the details of the day.  I also can’t believe it’s over now!  It feels so weird to come home from work and not think about what I have to get done for the wedding. It is nice to have some free time again though!

And speaking of free time….

The Adventure

Who needs free time???  I’m incredibly psyched to announce that I’m starting a new professional adventure!  I’ve spent the last four years working mostly with the surgical weight loss population, which has been amazing, but I’ve been wanting for a while to find a way to expand my specialty areas and fine tune my counseling skills.  Lucky for me, I happen to have a pretty awesome mentor and friend who has a nutrition counseling business and she has asked me to join her practice :-).

Starting in January I’ll be working full time with Mid Atlantic Nutrition Specialists, with speciality areas in Intuitive Eating, Cardiovascular Wellness, PCOS, and Integrative and Functional Nutrition. If you’re interested in checking out the practice, visit the website here.  I love that there’s an online scheduler so that clients can book their own appointments through the website, and there are instructions to walk you through checking to see if you have insurance coverage for nutrition counseling.

I’m so excited to start this new chapter in my career, and I can’t wait to see where 2018 takes me and Taylor.

Keep an eye on the blog, because now that I have a bit more free time, I’ll be able to post somewhat regularly, and I’ve got a lot of great recipes that I’ve been wanting to share.

Missed you all – glad to be back! 🙂
